The Effectiveness of the Funny Situational Topic Cards Assistant Role Play Method to Reduce the Anxiety of New Students in English in IAIN Pare-Pare
Abstract
The facts on the ground prove that most students have problems speaking in English, especially in the early semester students of the English Education study program at the Parepare State Islamic Institute. Anxiety about talking is nothing new, it has been around for as long as people talk to each other. Most speakers who have experienced anxiety know the importance of calm and confidence when speaking. Therefore, based on the current conditions in the field, one solution is offered to overcome students' English anxiety in the learning process, namely by applying the role-play learning method with the help of funny situational topic cards. With Situational Topic Cards in Role Play, it will further minimize the obstacles that arise when students speak English because in the Situational Topic Cards given to students there are references to focus them only on the scope of the topic. This research is a type of research and development (Research & Development). The design in this study uses experimental research with the type of research design, namely One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Testing the validity of the instruments from the majority of experts is in the very valid category, while the test results of the effectiveness of the tools and instruments used are in the very effective category. So that the learning tools that have been developed are suitable for use in the learning process.
